Young singer gets serious

Performer and composer Deborah Hocking has just quit her day job.
Is she feeling confident?
"I'm in transition at the moment, just getting my head around the idea that I am a musician rather than doing music as a hobby."
Hocking launched two CDs of original music to mark her new full-time status and her 30th birthday.
"I wanted to play a gig for my birthday so I decided to do a launch of the CDs. One is an EP called Stage and the other, a live acoustic studio album, is called D-Day."
She wrote her first songs as a young teenager and has played with bands and as a solo artist.
Hocking says her work as a psychologist gave insights into the human condition, which she puts to good use in her songs.
"I have two main themes, my own inner world and imagining other people's worlds."
Hocking will perform at the Family Fun Folk and Fundraising day at the Collingwood Children's Farm on August 25.
She will also be at the Yak Bar, Hoddle Street, Abbotsford on August 16.
